Yoga saves a client from arthritis

In the year 2008, Geeta got Osteoarthritis in her knees at the age of 56 years. She was undergoing huge amount of stress for the past two years. Geeta had been a very active person, arthritis brought her activity to a complete stop. She was no longer able to sit freely on the floor, she could not walk with ease. She started to get resting pain and also early morning stiffness. She was getting depressed due to symptoms of arthritis and inconvenience.

The risk of developing Arthritis increases with age, stress and genetics. It is characterized by pain, stiffness and swelling in and around one or more joints.

There are two types of arthritis:

  • Rheumatic arthritis – This typically affects the joints symmetrically, both sides of the body at the same time and almost to the same extent. This is caused by autoimmune condition.
  • Osteoarthritis – also, known as degenerative arthritis. This type is caused by degeneration and break down of cartilages

In both the types, Arthritis has significant impact on individuals’ physical and mental health.

Arthritis healed through yoga.

Yoga therapy has had several success stories for curing Arthritis. Geeta was fortunate, she chose to go through Yoga therapy. Initial days, she was not able to do the exercises. A week of therapy, diet and relaxation techniques increased her confidence towards yoga. She felt reduced knee pain, better management of symptoms with yoga.

She continued her regular practice at home on her own. It has been 8 years and she has witnessed the “reversibility theory of yoga” in this degenerative disease. Yoga helped her to get back to normalcy! She is able to sit on the floor and walk faster. She recommends yoga therapy and regular practice of yoga to all arthritis patients.

This is just one example and there are several others who have come out of their arthritis pain and symptoms. Multiple success stories of clients who have avoided their knee surgeries with practice of yoga.
